AP100 and AP1000 Platform FPGA Development Boards and Reference Designs

Gain a three to four month design jump on your
next Virtex-II Pro™ design project

The AP100 and AP1000 PCI Platform FPGA Development Boards are PCI cards with a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro™ FPGA that provide an instant, "out-of-box" system for developing embedded FPGA System-on-a-Chip (SoC) solutions. The boards come configured as a single board computer with monitor software and Linux O/S, and also provide an advanced design starting point to improve time to market and reduce development costs. Additional platform modules and accessories are available to support the development of programmable systems.

AP100 Virtex-II Pro Development Boards
The AP100 enables developers to explore embedded systems architecture in such areas as networking (SAN, VoIP, Bridges), communications, digital signal processing (DSP), image processing, industrial controls, and instrumentation, test and measurement. The AP100 family of boards support the following Xilinx Virtex-II Pro devices: XC2VP7 with one IBM PPC405 core, XC2VP20 with two IBM PPC405 cores, and XC2VP30 with two IBM PPC405 cores. For more information, download the AP100 PCI Platform FPGA Development Board (2VP7, 2VP20, 2VP30) Datasheet.
AP1000 Development Board for Larger Virtex-II Pro Devices
The AP100 enables developers to explore embedded systems architecture in such areas as networking (SAN, VoIP, Bridges), communications, digital signal processing (DSP), image processing, industrial controls, and instrumentation, test and measurement. The AP1000 family of boards support the following Xilinx Virtex-II Pro devices (in FF1704 package): XC2VP70 with two IBM PPC405 cores, and XC2VP100 with two IBM PPC405 cores. For more information, download the AP1000 PCI Platform FPGA Development Board (2VP70, 2VP100) Datasheet.

Reference Designs
The Baseline Platform Reference Design, which forms a basis for writing software and developing IP for the Virtex-II Pro, is included with your board purchase. In addition, AMIRIX has other reference designs available:
  • Standard Platform Reference Design: enhances the Baseline Platform with a Gigabit Ethernet interface
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet Platform Reference Design: builds upon the Standard Platform essentially providing two such platforms in a single FPGA
  • Quad Gigabit Ethernet Platform Reference Design: builds upon the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Platform by providing two additional Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
  • Multi-Gigabit Transceiver (MGT) Platform Reference Design: builds upon the Baseline Platform by adding XBERT and ICAP cores to the PLB

For more information, download the Reference Design Datasheet.

Accessories
Various tools are available to support the development of programmable systems design on the AP100 family of boards:

  • PMC Support Kit
  • PCI Benchtop AC Adaptor Kit
  • PCI Benchtop DC Adaptor Kit
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet Mezzanine

For more information, download the Platform Accessories Datasheet.

Supporting IP Cores
The Gigabit Ethernet Core is an interface core that lies between a PHY device and a CoreConnect Processor Local Bus (PLB). It is optimized for use in a processor based system and uses Direct Memory Access (DMA) for improved performance. All registers and buffer descriptors are memory mapped and can be accessed directly over the Processor Local Bus. PHY management functions are included. For more information, download the Gigabit Ethernet Core Datasheet.

The Email Trigger Core offers a simple way to have programmable logic hardware send messages through the Internet, for remote monitoring or debugging. The Email Trigger is entirely self-contained, and uses a Virtex-II Pro embedded PowerPC. The interface to user hardware is very simple, and the only external requirement is for an Ethernet PHY. For more information, download the Email Trigger Core Datasheet.
